Vegan Plant-Based Gelling Agent
Sainte Lucie agar agar powder is a versatile plant-based gelling agent used in baking and cooking. It helps set jellies, panna cotta, fruit desserts and savoury preparations with a clean, firm texture. As a vegan gelatine alternative, this agar agar powder offers strong setting power and precise results. It is flavourless and colourless once set, so it won’t alter the taste or appearance of your recipes.
Agar-agar is extracted from red seaweed. The algae are washed, dried and then boiled to release their natural gelling substance found in the cell walls. After dehydration, the extract is reduced into powder form. This process creates a 100% vegetal setting agent with a gelling strength around eight times higher than animal gelatine.
How to use agar agar powder:
- Dilute one 2g sachet in 500ml of water or milk
- Bring to the boil for 5 minutes, stirring well
- Gel forms as the mixture cools
- Average ratio: 2g for 500ml for a firm set
The practical 2g sachets allow accurate dosing and easy storage for everyday baking and cooking.
